Have You Met Bryden and Jennifer Becker? By Colleen Westberg, Blacktie staff Nonprofits in the Kansas City area are benefiting from innovations in fundraising. Will Wyatt’s Cowboy Couture, an emporium dedicated to the American West, supports charities by promoting unique events at their store. Owned by Bryden and Jennifer Becker, Will Wyatt’s offers western clothing, accessories, art, furniture and home decor. “Our store springs from a real passion we have for the American West's past, present, and future, and is named after our eldest son.” Jennifer said. Their three-year-old daughter Alexandra aka Ali, is waiting to see what is going to be named after her; and they are all awaiting the birth of Jack in October. A native of Concordia, Kansas, Jennifer lived in New York for 10 years. “I was a special events consultant for Pfizer, and we were a client of Bryden’s. We met over a conference table and that was it!” Bryden is a native of New York, but spent many of his teen years riding in Colorado and going to high school in Wyoming, where after classes and on the weekends the students worked for the local ranchers. The Becker’s love living in Kansas, and are looking forward to raising their expanding family here. Jennifer grew up working in her mom’s store, the Orange Owl in the 70’s. “It was a terrific place with women’s clothing, gourmet foods, a gift shop, and coffee and peanut grinders whirring away.” In any spare time from the store or her family, Jennifer loves to paint and is an accomplished interior designer. Bryden commutes weekly to New York where he is Senior Vice President for one of WPP’s many advertising agencies. He produces large scale events for corporations all around the world. Two groups that the Becker’s support are H.O.R.S.E and Heartland Therapeutic Riding. H.O.R.S.E, “Helping Others Reach Success & Excellence,” uses equine-assisted therapy in which horses are used to support emotional growth, self esteem and learning. And Heartland Therapeutic Riding provides therapy for children with disabilities through the use of horses. As Jennifer emphasizes, “Both H.O.R.S.E and Heartland nonprofits are helping children in ways that take advantage of the extraordinary gift that horses and the people who love them are uniquely able to share.” The Beckers, through some innovative fund raising techniques, are helping to support people with needs in the Kansas City area.
